HC Deb 01 April 1993 vol 222 c412W
Mr. Jonathan Evans

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what measures he is taking to assistrough sleepers in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

The Office of Population Censuses and Surveys carried out a census of people sleeping rough in England and Wales on the night of 21 to 22 April 1991 and found 29 rough sleepers in the Principality.

Local councils wishing to test innovative approaches in the exercise of their responsibilities for dealing with such cases may apply under the homelessness reserve, which has been maintained for 1993–94.
