To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many reported crimes have been recorded at Newtownabbey RUC station in each of the last three years; and how many prosecutions have taken place in respect of reported crimes.

The total number of crimes reported and detected in the Newtownabbey station and sub-divisional areas during the last three years is as follows:

Notes:

1. The statistics shown refer to the area in which the crime was committed and not necessarily the area where the person proceeded against resided.

2. One person may be proceeded against for more than one offence or a number of persons may be convicted in relation to one offence

3. The figure for persons proceeded against in each year includes persons proceeded against for offences committed in previous years.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps are being taken to increase patrolling and surveillance in estates for which Newtownabbey RUC station is responsible in east Antrim.

This is an operational matter for the Chief Constable of the RUC, but I understand that police patrols have recently been increased in the Newtownabbey sub-division area.
