Mr. Dewar

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate for 1993–94 the number of pensioners(a) in receipt of income-related benefits, (b) entitled to receive butnot claiming income-related benefits and (c) with income £10 per week or less above the eligibility level for receipt of income-related benefits.

The available information is in the tables. The latest available figures on the take up of income-related benefits can be found in "Income Related Benefits—Estimates of Take Up in 1989" published on 11 January 1993, copies of which are in the Library. It is not possible to provide information regarding take-up of benefit in 1993–94 as DSS does not produce such forecasts.
