HC Deb 01 April 1993 vol 222 c416W
Mr. Richards

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the outcome of the recent efficiency scrutiny of health promotion in Wales.

Mr. David Hunt

The scrutiny team made 37 recommendations aimed at improving the value for money obtained from the resources invested in health promotion in Wales. In particular, the team considered that local responsibility and accountability for health promotion should be strengthened, but with improved links between local and national planning, and that the disciplines of commissioner/provider arrangements should be extended in the field of health promotion.

The Department has accepted almost all of the recommendations, and has already set action in hand with a view to implementing the great majority of them by the beginning of financial year 1994–95.

I have today placed in the Library of the House a copy of the efficiency scrutiny report and the Department's response.
