To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the annual cost of monitoring the religious affiliation of the employees of Northern Ireland Railways.

§ Mr. Atkins
This is a matter for the company. I am advised by the managing director that the annual cost of monitoring the religious affiliation of the employees of Northern Ireland Railways Company Ltd. is not identified separately but is built into clerical and management labour costs within the human resources department and into general administration costs.

This is a matter for the companies. I am advised by the managing director that the annual cost of monitoring religious affiliation is not readily available since it is not separately quantified but forms part of the overall cost of personnel administration.

The annual cost of monitoring the religious affiliation of the employees at Belfast international airport and Belfast city airport is estimated to be £3,500 and £20,000 respectively.
