HC Deb 29 October 1992 vol 212 c805W
25. Mr. Cran

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the security situation in Northern Ireland.

Sir Patrick Mayhew

Since my predecessor answered a similar question on 26 February 1992 there have been 36 deaths as a result of the security situation in Northern Ireland, including 30 civilians, four soldiers, and two RUC officers.

I am sure the whole House will join me in condemning the continuing terrorist crimes. The Government will continue to give their full support to the police and armed forces in upholding the rule of law, striving to protect the community from terrorism, and bringing those who commit terrorist crimes to justice. Up to the end of September this year some 310 people have been charged with terrorist related offences, including 83 with murder or attempted murder.
