HC Deb 28 October 1992 vol 212 c706W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what decisions have been taken recently by the EC on the size of its future overseas development budget; and what are the real and constant price change from the budget for the current year and in 1991.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

EC Development Aid is financed partly by the European development fund and partly by the EC budget. The draft 1993 EC budget, including the provisions for development cooperation, is still under discussion. We expect a final decision by the end of the year. The information for 1991 and 1992 is as follows:

1991 1992
Current prices (mecu)
Commitment 1,477 1,770
Percentage increase 19.8
Constant (1991) prices
Commitment 1,477 1,689
Percentage increase 14.3

Note: In 1991, 500 mecu aid was also provided for countries most affected by the Gulf crisis.
