HC Deb 27 October 1992 vol 212 c607W
16. Mrs. Peacock

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his Department's current contribution to peacekeeping in Yugoslavia; and if he will make a statement.

17. Mr. Clifton-Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give an update on the level of the British commitment to the United Nations peacekeeping force in Yugoslavia; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

A main party of about 1,800 personnel is expected to be operational in Bosnia by mid-November. In addition, 400 extra troops, mainly Royal Engineers, will be involved in order to assist in the initial stages of deployment. This brings the total number to be deployed initially to 2,400, including headquarters troops. We have also provided United Nations observers, a field ambulance and an RAF Hercules has been taking part in humanitarian airlift operations into Sarejevo.
