To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the amount of public funds allocated to the students' unions in Northern Ireland in each of the past five years; what proposals he has to abolish for students at the Queen's university of Belfast and the Ulster university, compulsory membership of the students' unions; and if he will make a statement.

Public funds are not allocated direct by Government to students' unions in Northern Ireland. However, the amounts which have been allocated by universities and colleges of education in Northern Ireland to students' unions were as follows:
