HC Deb 27 October 1992 vol 212 c602W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what information he has on the level of racial discrimination in Northern Ireland; what are the racial divisions he intends to recognise in legislation to outlaw discrimination on grounds of race; and by what physical definition he intends to divide the population into its racial groups.

Mr. Mates

The former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in March 1992 agreed in principle to the publication of a consultative document which would examine the scope for legislation on racial discrimination and consider what additional action ought to be taken by the Government to promote equity of treatment for ethnic groups. This should be published later this year. Consideration of the content of possible legislation will he informed by the outcome of the consultative process.
