To ask the Secretary of State for Education by how much teachers' pay has increased since 1979.

§ Mr. Forth
We estimate that average teachers' pay at 1 April 1992 was £20,630. This represents an increase of 273 per cent. in cash terms since 1979 or a real-terms increase over that period of 46 per cent.
