§ Mr. ForthThe number of school teachers in post in LEA-maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools in England in January 1987—full-time equivalents—is 402,300. The corresponding figure for 1992, which includes grant-maintained schools, is 394,900.
§ Mr. ThurnhamTo ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will specify the number of teachers in each local education authority who(a) are disabled, whether registered or not as disabled and (b) not disabled who have retired early on medical grounds in the last five years of which figures are available.
§ Mr. ForthThe information requested at(a) is not held by the Department. Again, the information requested at (b) is not held in relation to disabled teachers who have retired on medical grounds or on a local education authority basis, but the total number of teachers in England and Wales who have retired on those grounds, for whatever reason., over the last five years is as follows:
