HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 c456W
Ms. Abbott

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has on the number of local housing authorities in which racial harassment by one council tenant of another is currently a ground for eviction.

Mr. Baldry

I have been asked to reply.

Information on the content of tenancy agreements is not collected centrally. However, a survey in 1991 established that 88 local housing authorities experienced a problem with racial violence and harassment in council housing. Of these, about half—46—stated that they would try to deal with perpetrators of racial violence and harassment by use of notice of seeking possession, the initial step in legal proceedings which can ultimately lead to eviction if the case is proved in court.
