To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department if he will take steps to ensure that the quality and level of service provided by the Probate service in England and Wales will continue to be maintained; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John M. Taylor

In his report of February 1992 "Probate—Service to the Public" the Comptroller and Auditor General commented favourably on the standard of service provided. The report indicated a number of areas where the service could be further improved and these are being pursued within the Department.
