§ Mr. BowisTo ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will make a statement on the status of staff from further education colleges working for local education authorities in the prison education service where redundancy following compulsory competitive tendering is concerned.
§ Mr. FormanThe employment beyond 1 April 1993 of staff engaged in prison education depends on the terms of each individual's contract of employment. Both LEAs and colleges will have the opportunity to tender to the Home Office for the provision of education to the prison service after that date. Those who are successful will want to consider making use of staff previously engaged in prison education. We cannot know whether any staff will be made redundant until this process has been completed.
