HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 c473W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received from National Power regarding the proposal to burn orimulsion at Pembroke power plant; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

None. In order to proceed with its plans to burn orimulsion at Pembroke power station, National Power requires permission from the Department of Trade and Industry and Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution—HMIP—under the Electricity Act 1989 a nd the Environmental Protection Act 1990 respectively. No decisions have been taken; but I understand that HMIP has recently indicated to the company that it does not consider that orimulsion could be burnt at Pembroke without further measures to protect the environment.
