To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make it his policy to appoint a serving police officer as the next Commissioner of the Metropolitan police.

My right hon. and learned Friend announced on 23 October that the Queen has appointed Mr. Paul Condon, at present chief constable of Kent, to succeed Sir Peter Imbert as Commissioner.
