§ Mr. DobsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people placed in work through the job interview committee scheme are no longer in work.
§ Mr. McLoughlinResponsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Service Agency under its chief executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.
Letter from Mr. A. G. Johnson to Mr. Frank Dobson, dated 26 October 1992:
As the Employment Service is an Executive Agency, it is the responsibility of Mr. Mike Fogden, the Agency's Chief Executive to answer Parliamentary Question about relevant operational matters. In his absence, I am replying to your question to the Secretary of State for Employment about the Job Interview Guarantee (JIG) initiative.
You asked how many people placed in work through the job interview committee scheme are no longer in work. I assume the scheme that you are referring to is the Job Interview Guarantee (JIG) initiative.
We do not collect statistics to provide the information that you ask for. To do so would require expensive tracking mechanisms as a disproportionate cost. However, we did undertake a small scale survey of JIG participants towards the end of 1991. This showed that 64 per cent. of people placed in permanent employment were still in work at the time of the survey. The majority of these would have been in employment for at least 6 months.
As decided by the Administration Committee of the House of Commons, Chief Executive replies to written Parliamentary Questions will now be published in the Official Report. I will also place a copy of this letter in the Library of the House.
