Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the President of the Board of Trade (1) when he expects the draft regulations relating to EC industrial funds to be published; and if he will make a statement;

(2) how far he expects negotiations on reform of the EC industrial funds to proceed during the United Kingdom's EC presidency.

Mr. Sainsbury

I do not expect to receive the European Commission's proposals for revised structural funds regulations until after the Edinburgh European Council on 11 and 12 December. It is therefore unlikely that substantive negotiations on them will begin during the United Kingdom presidency.
