To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what response has been made by Her Majesty's Government to the report by the president of the Court of Auditors of the European Communities concerning the environment—Fin 249–dated 21 September.

The Government attach importance to such reports and will ensure that it is followed up effectively. It was raised at the Environment Council on 20 October and will be taken into account in our approach to the review of the structural funds. We shall be issuing an explanatory memorandum shortly.
