To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what financial provisions, and how much, he has made within his Department in order to look at the potential for deregulation of each of the regulatory measures for which he has responsibility.

Mr. Atkins

There has been no financial provision made in respect of programme expenditure for deregulation in Northern Ireland. The Department of Economic Development has however allocated approximately £20,000 in staff time and resources to the deregulation initiative in 1992–93.
