§ Mr. SpearingTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the revenue lost from(a) income tax, (b) value-added tax and (c) other revenues to the Exchequer for a reduction in employment of 20,000 employees, for a range of different assumptions of average income of such employees.
§ Mr. Dorrell[holding answer 22 October 1992]: The effect of job losses on tax revenues will depend on a large number of factors in addition to the level of income of the employees affected and cannot therefore reliably be calculated.
