HL Deb 22 October 1992 vol 539 cc91-2WA
The Earl of Dundonald

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How regularly and at what locations they monitor pollution levels in the sea lochs of the west coast of Scotland.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Fraser of Carmyllie)

Routine monitoring of pollution levels is a matter for the river purification authorities, in this case the Clyde and Highland River Purification Boards. Their monitoring is described in the boards' annual reports which are held in the Library of the House. In addition the Scottish Office Agriculture and Fisheries Department carries out occasional sampling in selected sea lochs in support of its research programmes.
