§ Mrs. RoeTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the total receipts from taxes on tobacco products in the last financial year for which figures are available; and what estimate he can make of the level of such receipts in the current year.
§ Sir John Cope[holding answer 19 October 1992]: Revenue from excise duties on tobacco products in 1991–92 was £6,288 million. The estimate provided in this year's Financial Statement and Budget Report for these receipts in 1992–93 is £6.6 billion. A more up-to-date estimate will be available after the autumn statement has been published.
