HC Deb 21 October 1992 vol 212 c323W
34. Mr. Charles Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on progress with regard to the Skye bridge construction project.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Since construction began at the beginning of July, the contractor has made good progress. It is planned that the caissons for the bridge, which have been constructed at the Kishorn dry dock, will be floated out and sunk at the main pier positions within the Kyle in two to three weeks' time. The precise timing is subject to the prevailing weather and tidal conditions. This will be a very significant step towards the eventual completion of the project programmed for the summer of 1995.
