HC Deb 19 October 1992 vol 212 c109W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on his Department's policy towards the creation of coastal super-quarries.

Mr. Atkins

It is unlikely that the Northern Ireland coastline has the geological and marine conditions necessary for a coastal super-quarry.

However, should such a proposal come forward, an environmental impact assessment would be required as an integral part of the relevant planning application, which would be determined on its merits, if necessary after a public inquiry.
