HC Deb 19 October 1992 vol 212 c88W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what new initiatives she plans to reduce the incidence of lung cancer in women.

Dr. Mawhinney

Reducing the incidence of lung cancer in women will mainly depend on reducing the prevalence of smoking. "The Health of the Nation" includes a target to reduce smoking among women from 28 per cent. in 1990 to 20 per cent. by the year 2000. The White Paper sets out a comprehensive strategy to achieve the target, including action on price, health education, ensuring effective controls on advertising and a greater national health service role in reducing smoking.
