HC Deb 19 October 1992 vol 212 c27W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the informal consultations which the United Kingdom Government have been participating in regarding the United Nations convention on the law of the sea.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The United Kingdom Government participated in the last round of informal consultations convened by the Secretary General in August 1992, with a view to resolving the difficulties over the seabed mining provisions of the United Nations convention on the law of the sea (part XI).

There was some progress in analysing the problem areas and we shall be participating in the next round of consultations.
