Mr. Luff

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commomwealth Affairs what are the total funds available to the British Council for supporting cultural exchanges in the current financial year; and if he willl provide a breakdown of the application of these funds by country.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The Government are giving the British Council grants-in-aid of £116.99 million to support cultural exchanges(including development activities) in the current year.

British Council country allocations for cultural exchanges in 1992–93 are as follows:
