To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if she will give for each year since 1984 details of the number of times incidents have occurred at sites covered by the Control of Industrial Major Accident Hazards Regulations 1984 which required the activation of off-site emergency plans made under those regulations.

on proposed new construction (design and management) regulations and an approved code of practice. These will implement the design and management aspects of the European Community's temporary or mobile construction sites directive, adopted in June this year. The timing of the document is appropriate in view of the European Year of Safety's focus on construction as a high risk area. The regulations should help make construction sites much safer places to work in the future.
