§ Mr. LlwydTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales which local authorities in Wales have established independent units for 16 and 17-year-olds leaving care; and how many young people can be accommodated in each unit.
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesYoung people who leave care, and who do not return to their family, are generally accommodated in a range of accommodation from bedsits to supported lodging and council accommodation. I t is for individual authorities to determine the scale and range of such services and information about such provision is not held centrally.
§ Mr. LlwydTo ask the Secretary of Wales if he will list the local authorities in Wales which(a) employ a named person to assist young people leaving care and (b) have established telephone help-lines to assist such young people.
§ Mr. Gwilyn JonesThose young people who leave care usually remain the responsibility of the social worker who had responsibility while there were in care. This is normal procedure in each authority in Wales. The Department is not aware of any telephone help-lines set up specifically to assist young people leaving care in Wales.
