HC Deb 30 November 1992 vol 215 c42W
Mr. Hanson

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will list the specific financial grants made available by this Department in support of the sport of gymnastics for the current year.

Mr. Brooke

Most Government funds for sport are channelled through the Sports Council, which allocates these according to its policies and priorities. In the current financial year, the Sports Council has allocated a total of £398,000 in grant to gymnastics. This includes £322,000 to the British Amateur Gymnastics Association in support of the programmes identified in its four-year plan; £53,000 towards the costs of staging the world artistic gymnastics championships in Birmingham in April 1993; £13,000 to the British Schools Gymnastics Association; and £10,000 towards the costs of staging an international Brevet course in January 1993. In addition, the Foundation for Sport and the Arts has provided £1,649,992 for various projects associated with the development of gymnastics since September 1991.
