To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what were the levels of social services specific grant for the years 1991–92 and 1992–93 for AIDS/HIV; how many cases of(a) people with AIDS and (b) people with HIV were reported in each of the years 1990–91 and 1991–92; and what are the current estimates for 1992–93 and 1993–94;

(2) if she will make a statement on the level of social services specific grant for AIDS/HIV for 1993–94.

The level of AIDS/HIV specific grant for 1991–92 was £10.2 million and for 1992–93 £15.3 million. For 1993–94 the grant will be £12.4 million. The number of AIDS cases reported and HIV infection reports for England and Wales are as follows:

The latest predictions are for the period to the end of 1993 and are for AIDS cases only. For 1992–93 the planning projection after adjustments for reporting delay and under-reporting is 2,150 AIDS cases.
