§ Mr. AitkenThe Trident safety committee is an internal committee which supports the director general strategic weapon systems in discharging his specific responsibilities in relation to the safety of the Trident II strategic weapon system. It was established in its present form in 1988. The committee has two full-time staff and draws on about 15 others. The total annual staff costs associated with the committee's work are in the order of £400,000.
