HC Deb 26 November 1992 vol 214 cc753-4W
Mrs. Ewing

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his Department's most recent estimate of the loss to the Exchequer if widows' pensions were to be treated as non-taxable income.

Mr. Dorrell

At 1992–93 levels, the revenue cost of exempting from tax widows' pensions, including widowed mothers' allowances, would be about £100 million.
