§ Mr. DafisTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the International Tropical Timber Organisation764W concerning (a) the implementation of its Target 2000 campaign for a sustainable timber trade and (b) the level of imports and exports of tropical timber.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydWe fully support the objectives of Target 2000. We are proposing to fellow members of the International Tropical Timber Organisation in the context of the current renegotiation of the international tropical timber agreement, that its resources and methods of operation be improved to enable it to promote the objectives of Target 2000 as effectively as possible. The ITTO's priority objective should be the promotion of sustainable forest management at national level and hence sustainable trade.
