HC Deb 26 November 1992 vol 214 c830W
Mr. Page

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when the facilities at Sellafield to treat the spent nuclear fuel containing highly radioactive isotopes currently on site will be started.

Mr. Maclean

Facilities at Sellafield presently reprocess spent Magnox fuel and have done so since the early 1960s. The thermol oxide reprocessing plant facilities will not start the commercial reprocessing of oxide fuel until the Health and Safety Executive's nuclear installations inspectorate is satisfied with the safety of the plant and the regulatory authorities have no objections on waste management grounds.
