To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will now reconsider the proposed amalgamation of the Staffordshire and Cheshire regiments.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

No. The amalgamation of the Cheshire regiment and the Staffordshire regiment is due to take place in August 1993 and there is currently no reason why it should not go ahead.
