HC Deb 23 November 1992 vol 214 cc487-8W
Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the average annual regional growth rates by standard region for the period 1979 to the present date.

Mr. Portillo

The information is not available in the form requested. Growth rates are normally calculated on the basis of estimates of gross domestic product at constant prices, but regional GDP figures are calculated only at current prices since there are no regional price deflators available.

The November 1991 edition of "Economic Trends" contained the latest estimates of regional GDP for the years 1980–90, and estimates for earlier years are available from the House of Commons Library.
