HC Deb 23 November 1992 vol 214 cc448-9W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what steps are currently being undertaken by his Department to encourage more young people to become qualified teachers of hearing-impaired children.

Mr. Forth

The Department assists local education authorities in England with the costs of training qualified teachers to become teachers of pupils with special educational needs. It does this through the grants for education support and training programme which supports the training of hearing-impaired pupils. The amount of LEA expenditure to be supported for this training is being raised from £7.2 million in 1992–93 to £10 million in 1993–94.
