HC Deb 19 November 1992 vol 214 cc337-8W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if she will place in the Library a copy of the research commissioned by her Department on the effect of abolition of wages councils on employment prospects for women.

Mr. McLoughlin

The Department has commissioned several studies on the general economic effects of the wages councils. They suggest that the abolition of wages councils should improve employment prospects in the wages council industries, where the majority of workers are women. However, the studies do not focus exclusively on the prospects for women.
