HC Deb 19 November 1992 vol 214 c388W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement giving details of the health survey presently being carried out by the social survey division of the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys, including sample size and completion date.

Dr. Mawhinney

The health survey for England, currently being carried out by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys on behalf of the Department of Health, is a part of a continuing programme of surveys to monitor the nation's health. It is a central part of our health of the nation initiative and focuses on cardiovascular disease and associated risk factors.

The first survey took place in the autumn of 1991 and achieved a sample size of 3,100 adults. A report is due in mid-1993. The fieldwork for the 1992 survey is running from September to December. It is aiming for a sample size of 4,000 adults. The target sample size for 1993 is 17,000 adults. Results will be published annually.
