§ Mr. LeighNo. The Consumer Credit Act 1974 regulates the way that credit is offered to consumers and requires those giving credit or hire facilities or debt advice to be licensed by the Director General of Fair Trading. There are no plans for the provision of consumer advice to be made a statutory duty.
