§ Mr. RedmondTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will set up a public inquiry into the investment in computers by the national health service since 1986, into their appropriateness and robustness, and into whether the contracts were issued in accordance with standing orders.
§ Mr. SackvilleNo. The National Audit Office published a report of its inquiry into the management of national health service computer projects in 1990 and we accepted its recommendations. The Audit Commission plans a further inquiry in 1994. It is for the local general manager to ensure, and auditors to be satisfied, that staff letting contracts comply with standing orders.
