HC Deb 17 November 1992 vol 214 c180W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will instruct NHS providers to contract taxi services only with those firms which operate a no-smoking policy.

Dr. Mawhinney

The model smoke-free policy set out in the joint Department of Health/Health Education Authority booklet "Creating Effective Smoking Policies in the NHS", indicates that smoking should not be permitted in NHS vehicles, including ambulances. The extension of this policy to non-NHS, contracted transport providers is a matter for local service purchasers.
