HL Deb 17 November 1992 vol 540 cc41-2WA
Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many officials in the Department of National Heritage are principally occupied with tourism and the leisure industry; and what proportion of the total this comprises.

Viscount Astor

The Department of National Heritage has twenty-one civil servants who are wholly occupied on activities concerning the tourism and leisure industry. A further seven officials are principally occupied on statistical work concerning the industry but also provide some statistical advice to other areas of the department. The total of these groups comprise some 4.5 per cent. of the total staff of the department (excluding those within the Historic Royal Palaces Agency).
