To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the level of male unemployment in Wales at the latest available date.

Mr. David Hunt

In October 1992, seasonally adjusted male unemployment in Wales was 103,000.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many people in Wales and in Clwyd are without jobs.

Mr. David Hunt

In October 1992 there were 127,191 and 15,762 unemployed in Wales and Clwyd respectively.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what new proposals he intends to introduce to curb the increase in Welsh unemployment.

The Welsh Office and its agencies, which already operate a range of measures to increase employment opportunities, will continue to look for further opportunities which will increase employment prospects.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the current number of unemployed persons in Wales, Mid Glamorgan and Ogmore; and what were the numbers in 1979, 1983, 1987 and 1991.

In October 1992, there were 130,200, 25,586 and 3,300 unemployed claimants in Wales, Mid Glamorgan and Ogmore constituency respectively.

Comparable figures for Wales for 1979, 1983, 1987 and 1991 are 63,800, 154,400, 140,700 and 119,900 respectively.

Comparable data for 1979 are not available for Mid Glamorgan and Ogmore constituency, but for 1983, 1987 and 1991, the figures are 33,452, 24,418, 24,636; and 4,350, 3,841, 3,129 for Mid Glamorgan and Ogmore constituency respectively.
