To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what information he has concerning surplus school places in the primary and secondary sector in each local education authority in Wales.

As the answer contains numerous figures I will, with permission, circulate them in theOfficial Report. There are, however, more than 118,000 surplus places in primary and secondary schools throughout Wales. The cost of supplying these places is estimated at about £25 million.
