To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons have been convicted of offences specified in the Aggravated Vehicle Taking Act 1992 since it received Royal Assent; what assessment he has made of whether the Act is deterring the taking away of vehicles without consent; and if he will make a statement.

into force until April 1992, will not be available until autumn 1993. It is therefore too early to say what effect the Act may have in deterring the taking away of vehicles without consent.
