To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will announce the membership of the joint task force she has established with the British Diabetic Association to advise on the implementation of the World Health Organisation/European regional committee of the International Diabetes Federation St. Vincent declaration on the improvement of diabetic care.

The task force will be chaired by Professor Shaw CBE, lately dean of medicine, university of Newcastle, who will be supported by a multi-disciplinary expert team.

The task force will advise on the implementation of the World Health Organisation/International Diabetic Federation St. Vincent declaration on the improvement of diabetic care.

It is expected that the task force will need to seek further expert assistance on the range of specialist areas covered by the St. Vincent declaration.

The membership of the task force is as follows:

  • Professor David Shaw, CBE, Lately Dean of Medicine University of Newcastle.
  • Dr. Clive Buxton, Chairman, Director of Public Health, North Durham Health Authority.
  • Dr. Michael Hall, General Practitioner.
  • Mrs. Margaret Hunter, Area Co-ordinator (Tyne and Wear), British Diabetic Association.
  • Mrs. Mary MacKinnon, Diabetes Nurse Specialist, Northern General Hospital Sheffield.
  • Dr. Robert Young, Consultant Diabetologist, Salford
  • Dr. Rhys Williams, Lecturer in Community Medicine, University of Cambridge.
  • Professor Harry Keen, British Diabetic Association.
  • Mr. Michael Cooper, British Diabetic Association.
  • Miss Susan Knibbs, British Diabetic Association.
  • Dr. Doreen Rothman, Department of Health.
  • Mrs. Patricia Edwards, Department of Health.
  • Mr. John Garlick, Department of Health.
